PORTAGE, MI - Randy Van Antwerp has been elected president of the Portage Public Schools Board of Education, succeeding Bo Snyder who was chosen as the new vice president. The Portage school board organizational meeting Monday marked the first gathering of 2014 and board members said they were confident that Van Antwerp, who has been on the board since 2009, will lead them into a good year.

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Raises of 2 percent are proposed for the seven members of the Kalamazoo City Commission. Kalamazoo's mayoral salary is proposed to increase from $9,500 to $9,690 a year, the vice mayoral salary is proposed to increase from $8,000 to $8,160 a year and commissioners' salaries are proposed to increase from $7,000 to $7,140, according to a report from the Local Officers' Compensation Commission.
