WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Fred Upton voted in favor of a bipartisan budget that will greatly reduce the risk of another government shutdown in January. Under $85 billion deal, which Democrats and Republicans passed 332 to 94, funding would be restored to $63 million of the automatic across-the-board cuts that are due to take effect as a result of the automatic "sequester."

LANSING, MI - After receiving approval from the state Senate Thursday, a package of bills that would create mental health courts throughout Michigan now moves to the governor's desk for approval. House Bills 4694-97 would create mental health courts throughout Michigan.

OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, MI - Plans to build a Costco warehouse club store at Drake Road and Stadium Drive pushed ahead Thursday night with approval of its site plan application by the Oshtemo Township Planning Commission. The seven-member commission ended a nearly three-hour discussion of the project with unanimous approval of a site plan application by local developer Joe Gesmundo and his American Village Builders.
