Poll shows race for Michigan governor, U.S. Senate should be close

The poll shows Governor Rick Snyder beating Democrat Mark Schauer by just four percent, while incumbent U.S. Senator Terri Lynn Land wins over challenger Gary Peters by two percent.
LANSING - A poll released today shows close races for both Michigan governor and the U.S. Senate, a little less than a year away from 2014 election. The poll from Public Policy Polling (PPP) of Raleigh, N.C., shows Gov. Rick Snyder leading Democratic challenger Mark Schauer 44% to 40%.

House committee passes bill to double campaign donor limits, allow anonymous issue ads

A state House committee has approved a controversial bill that doubles campaign donation limits and also protects the identity of donors who pay for “issue ads”—or ads that tend to attack candidates without suggesting how citizens should vote.
Today's 5-4 vote by the House Elections and Ethics Committee followed a second day of testimony on a bill that would nullify an effort by Secretary of State Ruth Johnson to require disclosure of who pays for issue ads, which often attack candidates but don't expressly advocate how someone should vote.

KALAMAZOO, MI -- A Kalamazoo County Circuit Court judge recently dismissed a lawsuit filed by Ric Perry, former superintendent of Portage Public Schools, seeking to set aside an arbitrator's ruling that the school board was justified in terminating Perry's employment. The lawsuit contended Perry was not granted due process and deserves a new arbitration hearing.
