Mediator recommends 2% pay raises, health care changes for state workers

LANSING - Thousands of unionized state employees would get 2 percent salary increases in 2015 and 2016 and could have higher out-of-pocket costs for health insurance under recommendations made by an impasse panel last week. The Michigan Employment Relations Board made the recommendations after the state and unions representing about 34,000 state employees were unable to reach consensus on wage and benefit issues.

EPA denies Enbridge request for extension or dredging order

A request by Enbridge Inc. for a 10-month extension on its dredging order has been denied by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. In a letter to Rich Adams, the company's vice president of operations, the federal agency said Enbridge failed to "prepare adequate contingency plans" despite knowing there was strong opposition from residents and business owners near one of its proposed dredge pad sites.

CHICAGO- Junior forward Marquisha Harris totaled 19 points and a career-high 19 rebounds in Western Michigan's 67-49 win at Chicago State Sunday. Her 19 rebounds tied as the third most in a single game in Bronco women's basketball history. Harris shot 7-for-15 from the floor and collected six caroms on the offensive side of the glass.
