KALAMAZOO, MI - Connar Tava had his old man game working against a talented group of Bobcats Wednesday. The 6-foot-6, 235-pound sophomore power forward can play above the rim, but he used a spin move, the up-and-under move and pump fakes in the paint to help Western Michigan through a critical stretch in the Mid-American Conference game against Ohio and he finished with 18 points in the Broncos' 90-74 win at University Arena.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio- Western Michigan trailed Mid-American Conference East leader Bowling Green by two at halftime, 32-30, but couldn't keep in stride with the Falcons in the final 20 minutes, falling 72-50 on the road Wednesday. Post play and rebounding helped WMU give Bowling Green a run for its money in the first half.

KALAMAZOO, MI - P.J. Fleck continued two trends on Wednesday. He continued to call Western Michigan University's 2013 football record "unacceptable," and he continued to look towards the future. As the youngest coach in the country, Fleck led the Broncos to a 1-11 record last year, which included a loss to Football Championship Subdivision opponent Nicholls State.

Governor Snyder Unveils State Budget Proposal

LANSING, MI -- Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder on Wednesday unveiled his $52.1 billion budget proposal for the next fiscal year, calling for tax relief, continued savings and strategic investments as a result of increased state revenues. "This is more than just a budget," Snyder said in a release.

Battle Creek City Manager to Step Down

Battle Creek City Manager Ken Tsuchiyama announced today he will step down, probably before the end of the month. "The Mayor and I have agreed that the Commission and I differ in our views regarding the direction of the city and that it would be in the best interests of all for me to step down from my City Manager position," Tsuchiyama said in an email to city staff this morning.
