KALAMAZOO, MI -- Zach Bauer, executive director of the Kalamazoo Gay Lesbian Resource Center, will leave that post soon to join the community investment team with the Kalamazoo Community Foundation. Bauer, who is credited with leading the Kalamazoo Gay Lesbian Resource Center forward, expanding its capacity, doubling its staff and cultivating important relationships since March of 2011, is expected to make the transition this March.

Michigan Democrats Propose Interest-Free Loans Paid Back with Future Earnings

LANSING -- Democratic lawmakers in the Michigan Legislature put forward a proposal Tuesday to take the state's college students out of the student loan market. The "Pay It Forward" would give in-state students interest-free loans for college in exchange for a commitment to pay back 4 percent of salaries for up to 25 years after graduation.

Portage City Council Reinstates Senior Citizen Discount on Water Bills

PORTAGE, MI - Portage senior citizens who are city water customers will get their discount back in August. The Portage City Council Tuesday, after a long discussion, reinstated the 10 percent discount on water bills for seniors who are 65 years and older.

KVCC Enrollment Drops 13-percent

KALAMAZOO, MI -- There are 1,400 fewer students at Kalamazoo Valley Community College this winter, compared with 2013. Enrollment has dropped 13 percent in a year, Michael McCall, director of admissions, registration and records, told KVCC's Board of Trustees Tuesday evening. It's the largest decline in at least five years.
