Kalamazoo County health department reports two deaths related to flu

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Two people in Kalamazoo County have died from flu-related illnesses this season. Linda Vail, director of the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department, said in an email that both victims were over age 50. A flu-related death was also reported in Van Buren County last week.

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Even though many offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, there are events happening around Kalamazoo to celebrate the holiday that are free and open to the public. All Michigan Secretary of State offices will be closed Monday.

Kalamazoo city manager wants task force on legacy costs

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Kalamazoo City Manager Jim Ritsema on Monday will ask the Kalamazoo City Commission to authorize the creation of a task force to examine the city's legacy costs. Ritsema's task force would include staff and community stakeholders to "research, study and explore options that contain the city's long-term financial liability for providing health care to its retirees," Ritsema wrote to city commissioners in a staff memo.

Rogers raises concerns over Olympic security
