Event Description

Beginning on November 3, we will screen three new Indie films: LUCKY, HUMAN FLOW and 78/52: HITCHCOCK’S SHOWER SCENE. http://www.kalfilmsociety.net/indie-film-series.php HUMAN FLOW was filmed by the Chinese artist/activist Ai Weiwei and follows a chain of urgent human stories that stretches across the globe in multiple countries. It stands as a witness to its’ subjects and their desperate search for safety, shelter and justice. This visceral work of cinema is a testament to the unassailable human spirit and poses one of the questions that will define this century: Will our global society emerge from fear, isolation, and self-interest and choose a path of openness, freedom, and respect for humanity? With 78 camera set-ups and 52 edits over the course of 3 minutes, the shower scene in Psycho redefined screen violence, set the stage for decades of films to come, and introduced a new element of danger to the moviegoing experience. In 78/52: HITCHCOCK’S SHOWER SCENE, director Alexandre Philippe pulls back the curtain on the making and influence of Alfred Hitchcock’s infamous shower scene. The result is an enthralling piece of cinematic detective work that is nirvana for film fans. On September 15 of this year, film fans all over the world reflected as the life of the great actor Harry Dean Stanton faded to black. The KFS is especially pleased to offer you LUCKY, a film that is, at once, a love letter to the life and career of Harry Dean Stanton, as well as a character study on morality, loneliness, spirituality, and human connection. John Carroll Lynch's directorial debut is a wisp of a movie, blowing across the screen like a tumbleweed, but it’s also the rare portrait of mortality that’s both fun and full of life.
