public health en Beef-Related Bacteria Outbreak Investigated <p>State officials say they're <a href="">investigating</a> an outbreak of illness that may be related to under-cooked ground beef. The departments of Agriculture and Community Health say five people have become sick and three have wound up in the hospital because of infections by <em>E. coli</em> bacteria. Some of the cases were reported in Ottawa and Kent counties in April and early May. The Department of Community Health says the infections appear to have a "common source," &nbsp;based on laboratory tests. The Community health and Agriculture departments say the case involves a child who had pigs on display at the Berrien County Youth Fair earlier this month. &nbsp;The child was not hospitalized.</p><p>Officials say they're trying to reach other exhibitors to find out if they also came down with the H3N2v virus. It causes symptoms like those of the regular seasonal influenza, although some cases can be severe and even fatal.
