WMUK seeks the right candidate for a 26-week, 10-hour-per-week, paid internship in its news department. The internship is offered during the fall and spring semesters at WMU (September-April).
The person chosen will work closely with WMUK's national award-winning news department to research, report, write, produce, and present audio news content for the station's broadcast service and its website. The successful candidate will also gain experience in preparing and delivering on-air newscasts; conducting research and booking guests for WMUK's twice-weekly public affairs program WestSouthwest; creating content for the news sections of WMUK's webpage; and assisting with social media.
Required qualifications: The successful candidate must show superior ability to communicate ideas and convey nonfiction stories in writing; the person chosen must be able to operate computers, digital audio recorders, digital cameras, and other electronic equipment; the successful candidate must be able to devote 10 hours each week to the internship.
Preferred qualifications: Familiarity with digital audio recording equipment and audio editing software; experience with digital photography and video; previous journalism experience.
Compensation: $9.95 / hour; no benefits
This position reports to WMUK's News Director, although the person chosen will also work closely with and be supervised by other members of the station's news department.
