Hey Mr DJ: Record Store Day Celebrates Vinyl, Spotlights Old And New Music

As manager of The Corner Record Shop, Sean Hartman is in the know about the best and most valued vinyl music. His store is participating in the seventh annual nationwide event known as Record Store Day, where vinyl enthusiasts can pick up new-old releases and celebrate with fellow fans.

Saturday is usually that special day at the end of the week reserved for sleeping in, seeing friends, and 

tinkering with odds and ends in the garage. That is, unless it’s the third Saturday in April and you are a vinyl music maven who is aching to add a prized gem to your collection. So you set the alarm and sleepily head to the closest record shop to stand in line – and make a few friends – as you await the beginning of Record Store Day

House Considers Budget With New Funds for HICA

The Michigan House is set to consider a budget bill that would direct more than a hundred million dollars of extra funding to the Department of Community Health.

Gongwer News Service reports that the bill aims to remedy a gap in funding for the Health Insurance Claims Assessment. It’s been approved 19 to 0 by the House Appropriations Committee, with all Republicans voting in favor and all Democrats abstaining.

Battle Creek Reinvestigates Police Incident

The City of Battle Creek says it’s investigating whether a police officer used excessive force when arresting an assault suspect more than a year ago.

A previous inquiry into the October 2012 incident had cleared patrol officer Christopher Hug of wrongdoing. But city officials say they recently discovered that some key information from the case never made it to the county prosecutor’s office. That includes surveillance tape that shows Hug apparently beating suspect Kenneth Moye.

"Balance" Uses Performing Arts To Bring Awareness To Child Sexual Assault

At Fire Historical & Cultural Arts Collaborative, three women are taking the negativity of sexual abuse and speaking their truth to power. 

Denise Miller, co-founder of Fire Historical & Cultural Arts Collaborative, along with Melissa Dey Hasbrook and Laura Sprague will be presenting "Balance," two nights of performing arts focused on moving forward after surviving child sexual assault.
