Poet Darius Gardner Keeps His Poems Front And Center, No Paper Necessary

Gardner has been interested in performing since he was in middle school. What he strives for most is relatability, which he calls his "bread and butter."

Tonight, poet Darius Gardner will be performing spoken word in conjunction with the Black Arts Festival. It's one of three performances he's got scheduled this weekend. 

But when we met a week ago, he was still deciding what to write and perform. It’s all part of his process.

Hot Club of Detroit to play Fontana summer finale

The final concert of the Fontana summer festival will feature the Hot Club of Detroit, whose style is rooted in gypsy jazz rhythms, but whose personnel bring their own modern day influences to the mix.

The group's virtuoso accordionist, Julien Labro, gave Cara Lieurance a crash course in how the band balances its blend of tradition and progress.

Duo Diorama is the husband-and-wife team of violinist MingHuan Xu and pianist Winston Choi.

At the Chamber Music Festival of Saugatuck, they'll perform a program of music by Bach, Brahms, William Grant Still, and John Corigliano. Cara Lieurance talks to Winston Choi about the couple's Michigan connections, Mr. Choi's Canadian upbringing, and their new life in Chicago.

WMU Solar Car Races Toward Nebraska

Western Michigan University’s Sunseeker solar car has finished seventh in stage two of the American Solar Challenge. It's currently en route to Omaha, Nebraska from Kansas, as part of the more than 1700-mile race that began in Austin, Texas and will end in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Sunseeker, which is built, driven and maintained by WMU engineering students, finished eighth in the race's first stage.

Top Irish Ensemble Téada To Play Richland Community Hall
