Scientist finds her way to glass art

When Gloria Badiner of Mattawan saw some glass art, she instantly fell in love. She was a working scientist at the time.

“Glass is a material that has a scientific component to it,” Badiner says, “so, it just fit really well for me.”

Viking horse breed in Marshall turns heads

The Norwegian Fjord Horse is roughly 5,000 years old. Fjord horse bones have even been found at Viking burial sites. There are only about 20 Fjord herds in Michigan and Nottawa Crossing Fjords in Marshall has one of the largest herds. Anne Crandalll raises them with her mother Bernadine Karns.

Storms knock out power to thousands

Update July 21st 7:45a.m. Consumers Energy's outage map shows there are still 2,000 customers in Kalamazoo County without power. The utility says power should be restored by Monday morning. Consumers Energy's website shows 75 outages in Allegan County and 13 in Van Buren County Sunday morning.

If you haven’t been to Shakespeare in the Park in Portage before, this weekend may be your last chance. The Comedy of Errors will be performed at the Celery Flats Amphitheatre in Portage, Thursday through Sunday. The City of Portage is cutting funding for its entire summer entertainment series, which includes concerts, movie nights, and the all-volunteer Shakespeare troupe.
