Michigan NOW: Auto marketing guru loves trains

Earlier this month, voters in Kalamazoo County renewed a millage for public transit service. But in southeastern Michigan, officials are still trying to pull a new regional transit system together.

They and others met recently at the University of Detroit Mercy where they heard from transit system managers around the country. They included Toby Barlow, an advocate for the auto industry who says his heart is still with trains and busses.

Girl Scout camps still strong in Michigan

Plans by some Girl Scout councils around the country to close and sell their summer camps have volunteers and parents up in arms. Meetings on the issue in some places have been so heated that police were called.

Ex-MI Supreme Court justice heads to prison

Former Michigan Supreme Court justice Diane Hathaway is heading to a federal prison. The Gongwer News Service reports that a federal judge sentenced Hathaway to a year and a day behind bars Tuesday. She had earlier been found guilty of hiding a million dollars in assets so she could sell of a home in Grosse Pointe Park at a favorable price.
