Restoring an ancient Great Lakes fish

Sturgeon have lived in the Great Lakes longer than humans have walked the earth. But the ancient fish now need our help to stay here. A joint project by the federal and state officials with a Native American tribe is trying to do that by rebuilding habitat for lake sturgeon in the Kalamazoo River. WMUK’s Brian Petersen went along to find out how it’s done.

Governor, GOP reach budget "framework"

 Governor Rick Snyder and Republican legislative leaders have agreed on a plan to complete the new state budget. But the Gongwer News Service says that does not include two contentious issues: more money for roads and expansion of Medicaid. House Speaker Jase Bolger of Marshall says a “broader discussion” of those areas will continue.

A memoir about murder, surfing, and that complex relationship we have with our parents

Author and Western Michigan University alum Kelly Daniels will read from his memoir Cloudbreak California on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at Michigan News Agency in Kalamazoo. Cloudbreak California begins with Daniels’ father who confesses to murdering a man and then disappears. Then the story follows Daniels as he travels to places like Mexico and Guatemala, living simply, meeting colorful characters, and searching for a story to write.
