Pacific Rim puts the fun back in thrillers

I’ve got to make a confession. When I was 10, 11, 12, my friends and I spent many a Saturday afternoon sitting through matinee shows of such classics like Yongary, Monster from the Deep or Godzilla versus the Smog Monster We could never get enough, even though the special effects were often laughably tacky, the plots were painfully predictable and the dialogue was unspeakably awful.

Historic Kalamazoo fountain gets grant

A plan to restore an historic fountain in Kalamazoo’s Bronson Park will get an $83,000 kick start. City officials say they’ve won a grant from the Jeffris Family Foundation in Wisconsin to help pay for work on the “Fountain of the Pioneers”. The City has three years to raise another $166,000 in matching money for the restoration project that's expected to cost up to $2.5 million.
