WMU Extends Cole-Gilmore Property Agreement

Western Michigan University will have an extra year to decide what to do with its portion of the land once owned by the Cole-Gilmore car dealership in downtown Kalamazoo.

On Wednesday, WMU’s trustees approved an extension to an agreement with Downtown Tomorrow Incorporated. The university bought a share of the property 13 years ago. It says it has no plan for how to develop the land. It would like to reserve the parcels for  "future development or for University purposes, as may be decided at a later date," according to the trustees' agenda packet for the meeting.

Kalamazoo's 3-Way Democratic State House Primary

Open seats often mean crowded primary elections, and that’s the situation in the 60th State House District that includes the City of Kalamazoo. Representative Sean McCann will leave the House after two terms because he’s running for State Senate. For years the 60th has been considered a “safe” House district for Democrats and that's attracted three candidates seeking their party’s nomination to replace McCann.

Calidore Quartet to play sold-out Fontana concert

WMU Solar Car Ties for 3rd in Formula Sun, Races On

Western Michigan University’s Sunseeker solar car tied for third place in the Formula Sun Grand Prix in Austin, Texas last weekend. And the engineering students on the Sunseeker team aren’t done yet.

Starting July 21 they'll race the car against other college teams in the American Solar Challenge. That takes the Sunseeker on a more than 1700-mile course to Minneapolis.
