Andy Robins has been WMUK's News Director since 1998 and a broadcast journalist for over 24 years. He joined WMUK's staff in 1985. Under his direction, WMUK has received numerous awards for news reporting.

Portage Schools sign contract with new superintendent

The new superintendent of the Portage Public Schools has a three-year contract. School Board trustees signed the agreement with Mark Bielang on Tuesday. Bielang, who is now superintendent of the Paw Paw Public Schools, will take over in Portage August 5th. He'll be paid just under $214,000 a year.

Portage School Board trustees picked Bielang as the district's new superintendent June 21st after a protracted search process that saw an earlier finalist drop out and charges that the board had violated Michigan's Open Meetings Act. PPS officials say that was not the case.

Waterfront Film Fest goes on, with or without power

SOUTH HAVEN, MI -- The Waterfront Film Festival will still hold its opening night concert and movie screening Thursday, despite a widespread power outage in South Haven, according to festival organizers. "We're going to have the party," said festival publicist Patrick Revere. "We can do acoustic music sets if we have to.

Kalamazoo gets good economic start in 2013

A new report says the economy in the Kalamazoo area got off to a good start in 2013. The Upjohn Employment Research Institute says 1,300 jobs were added in Kalamazoo County during the first three months of the year. That’s an increase of one percent.

The Institute’s latest issue of its Business Outlook for West Michigan says most of the increase was in service jobs, not manufacturing.

Kalamazoo Pride 2013 to be serious and entertaining

The sixth annual Kalamazoo Pride festival kicks off Friday in downtown Kalamazoo at the Arcadia Creek Festival Site. The Kalamazoo Gay Lesbian Resource Center organizes the event that Executive Director Zach Bauer says is designed to be both serious and entertaining.

KVCC part-time faculty drop labor complaint

The union representing part-time instructors at Kalamazoo Valley Community College says it is dropping an unfair labor practice complaint against the school. The KVCC Federation of Teachers says it's signed an agreement with the college to prevent job losses.
