Pianist Jeremy Siskind presents classics, improvisations

A new season unveiled by Kalamazoo Symphony maestro Harvey

The new season of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra was announced this week. Music director Raymond Harvey chose a personal favorite, Rachmaninoff's second symphony, to start his fifteenth year as maestro of the KSO. 

He shares his admiration for the season's guest artists, violinist Midori and pianist Leon Fleisher, and looks forward to helming a semi-staged production of Verdi's opera Otello

Composer Derek Bermel honors Bartok, NY

The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra's concert Friday will feature new music by American composer Derek Bermel

A native New Yorker, in 2009 he wrote A Shout, a Whisper, and a Trace to honor his hometown as well as the great expatriate Hungarian composer Bela Bartok, whose sometimes sorrowful letters from New York to his friends and students were an inspiration.
