Michigan Legislature Calls for Federal Balanced Budget Amendment

LANSING, MI -- Michigan has joined more than 20 other states with active applications urging Congress to call a convention for the purposes of drafting a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The Michigan Senate on Wednesday signed off on the final draft of Joint Resolution V, approving House modifications in a 25-12 party-line vote.

Dorothy Young Remembered for Work on Housing in Battle Creek

An outspoken woman, Dorothy Young left an impact on Battle Creek that may never be forgotten. Young, 79, who died Saturday at Bronson Battle Creek hospital, worked toward better housing and equality for all during her time in Battle Creek.

Michigan Unemployment Rate Edged Down Again in February

State's jobless rate was 8.8% in February of last year
The seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate in Michigan notched down again in February, hitting a point last seen in spring 2008. The slight drop to 7.7% from 7.8% reflected an increase of 26,000 workers in the labor force over the month and a decline in the number of unemployed by 4,000, according to data released today by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget.
