Two incumbents defeated in Battle Creek

Two incumbents were ousted Tuesday as Battle Creek voters opted for a newcomer and a former representative to be on their next city commission. Ward 3 Commissioner Sherry Sofia, who regained her seat in 2011 after losing the previous election, was knocked off the commission again, this time by political newcomer Dean Newsome.

Hopewell remains Kalamazoo Mayor, Anderson to become Vice-Mayor

All six incumbent commissioners won re-election. Newcomer Jack Urban, a former Kalamazoo County commissioner, also was given a seat on the commission. "I'm so excited Vice Mayor-elect Anderson is in the position he'll be in," Hopewell said at his election night party. "It will create a different energy and synergy leading the commission."
