Group continues to press Kellogg on palm oil

Kellogg Co. officials were handed thousands of petition signatures Wednesday as residents and environmentalists gathered outside headquarters in another push to end alleged rainforest destruction. Wearing coats and holding signs, more than 70 people stood across the street from the Battle Creek-based company's offices.

Michigan unemployment rate remains at 9%

The Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget said total employment, the number of unemployed and the state's labor force were little changed over the August to October period. The report, normally issued monthly, covered two months this time due to the interruption caused by the recent federal government shutdown.

Consumers Energy says power should be fully restored by Friday

KALAMAZOO, MI - Consumers Energy officials said Wednesday afternoon that crews are ahead of schedule and the utility provider expects to have power fully restored by Friday, a day sooner than planned. About 41,900 Consumers customers were still without power, as of 11:30 a.m., according to a news release issued by the company.

Power coming back - gradually

The number of people still dealing with power outages from Sunday's storms is steadily dwindling, and they're happy about that in the Creek Valley Mobile Home Park.There, owner Jeff Mead said the power finally came back on there sometime after 1 a.m. Wednesday. That meant residents had gone almost three full days without running water.

Red Cross closing shelter in Calhoun County

A news release says that shelters in Kent and Ionia Counties opened after Sunday's storms will also close. Other shelters including in Kalamazoo, Cass and Van Buren Counties will remain open.
