Boat cruise season winding down

Another summer, another season. For the Star of Saugatuck and other boat cruise and tour companies, the season is winding down. After a few more weeks, the boats will be cleaned and made ready for storage.

State officials report good year for camping

While many have put their tents away and others are thinking about storing their RV's for the winter still others are taking advantage of Michigan's fall camping season. State officials say 2013 has been a good year for camping. State forest campground use was up from last year, and state park campers made a very strong showing.

Michigan Municipal League plan would help cities fund infrastructure and services

LANSING - An expanded sales tax, increased gas tax and forgivable student loans are among Michigan Municipal League's ideas for boosting the economy and fixing local finance problems. Local governments have for years slashed staff and struggled to fund basic services as state revenue sharing declined, property values plummeted and laws limited municipalities' ability to collect new tax revenue.
