PORTAGE, MI -- If he became superintendent of Portage Public Schools, Greg Gray said his first priority would be "rebuilding trust" between the district leadership and community residents. Western Michigan University is moving closer to an agreement with Thomas M. Cooley Law School. During their regular board meeting on Thursday, trustees authorized Western President John Dunn to move forward to try and reach an agreement for an affiliation plan with the law school. The resolution approved by the board says that Cooley will remain an independent, non-profit school. But will be called the Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School.

The Holland City Council approved a fireworks ordinance Wednesday that limits the use of fireworks in the city. The ordinance changes are in response to the state's repeal of a long-standing ban on fireworks that leave the ground or make loud bangs after being ignited.
