Kalamazoo Commission to Consider More Money for Adovacating Clean up of Allied Paper Landfill

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Kalamazoo City Commissioners will be asked tonight to allocate another $160,000 in the city's fight to clean up contaminated soil on the Allied Paper site in Kalamazoo's Edison neighborhood. The request would bring the city's allocation toward lobbying and advocacy for removal of the toxic soil up to $360,000.

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.- Western Michigan will be the No. 8 seed in the Mid-American Conference Tournament, May 21-25, earning a bid for the third time in four seasons under head coach Billy Gernon. A late push at the end of the year put WMU in position to reach the tournament, taking two of three in series against Eastern Michigan and Toledo the previous two weekends.

Senate Committee Considers Funding Airport Improvements

Lansing A Senate committee last week dramatically ramped up proposed spending to catch up on $730 million worth of improvements at Michigan airports, but its plan is drawing significant opposition. The proposal would add $32 million to $42 million a year to the pot of money available for airport improvements through an adjusted aviation fuel tax.
