State to End Exclusive Contract with Education Achievement Authority

The achievement authority, founded three years ago, oversees failing schools in the state that don’t seem to be improving.
State Superintendent Mike Flanagan has notified the Education Achievement Authority - the controversial system for the worst-performing schools in the state - that he will terminate an exclusive contract the authority has with the Michigan Department of Education. The termination will be effective Feb. 18, 2015.

LANSING, MI -- Republican Gov. Rick Snyder and U.S. Senate candidate Terri Lynn Land lead their likely general election opponents in a new statewide poll, but a minimum wage hike proposal supported by top Democrats also fared well.
