Handle ancient weapons...and learn about them too

On Saturday, Keith Nelson of Southside Dojo will give an interactive demonstration of ancient weapons and fighting styles at the Kalamazoo Public Library. He’ll show off weapons like the katana, the kind of sword you might see in a Japanese samurai movie.

McCann wants to ensure lunch breaks, days off for state workers

The legislation would guarantee a 20 minute lunch break for employees working longer than 7.5 hour shifts as well as one day off every seven days for full time employees.
KALAMAZOO, MI - State Rep. Sean McCann has introduced a bill that would guarantee rest days for most full-time workers and lunch breaks for those working shifts longer than 7.5 hours. "No one works harder than Michigan's men and women - the people who led America into its period of greatest prosperity and who are leading the manufacturing come-back in Michigan," McCann, D-Kalamazoo, said in a prepared statement.

45,000 Michiganders will not get emergency unemployment

New Eastside children's choir brings music to an underserved neighborhood

Old oil pipeline near Straits of Mackinac worries U.S. Senators for Michigan

Lead in text: 
Enbridge Energy wants to up the amount of crude oil running through an old pipeline near the Straits of Mackinaw by 1.2 million gallons a day.
U.S. Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin, both Democrats, sent a letter today to the federal Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration raising concerns about Enbridge Energy Partners increasing the amount of crude oil running through Line 5 by 1.2 million gallons of oil a day.
