Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated Laura Sprague's occupation.

Though it’s thought to be one of the most underreported crimes, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control estimate about 1 in 6 boys and 1 in 4 girls will face sexual assault before the age of 18. On Friday night, FIRE Historical and Cultural Arts Collaborative will show a taping of the New York theatre troupe Ping Chong & Company’s production Secret Survivors, where survivors of child sexual abuse use theatre to talk about their experiences.

Calhoun county ranks low in health

Lead in text:
A health study released today ranks Calhoun County near the bottom. Calhoun County placed 78th out of the 82 Michigan counties. Allegan County was ranked the healthiest in our area, at 11th. Most of the Southwest Michigan counties fell between 40th and 60th place. Kalamazoo came in 46th in the health study.
The health of Calhoun County could use a booster shot, if a new study's numbers are accurate. The University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation released a study today that ranked each county in the nation.

Road budget doesn't increase, to Snyder's dismay

Lead in text:
A Michigan House committee passed the state transportation budget without the extra $1.2 billion Governor Rick Snyder has been pushing for to make road repairs and improvements.
Lansing - A House committee on Tuesday passed a $3.4 billion transportation budget that is $1.2 billion less than Gov. Rick Snyder wanted to fix the state's roadways. The House Appropriations transportation subcommittee's bill does not include the $1.2 billion in new revenue Snyder is seeking because the Legislature has so far been unable to agree on whose tax bills should increase to pay for road repairs.

An interview with Kalamazoo Astronomical Society members Richard Bell and Mike Sinclair

The Comet PanSTARRS has been within view for about a week now, but the Kalamazoo Astronomical Society has been waiting for a weekend to plan their public watch party. K.A.S. President Richard Bell says a comet is basically a piece of ice and rock leftover from when the planets were formed.
