Bake Sale Bill Goes to Snyder

Legislation to allow students to fundraise in school by selling sweets is headed to Governor Rick Snyder’s desk. Student groups have complained new federal guidelines have hindered their ability to hold bake sales.

But Democratic state Senator Vincent Gregory opposes the bill.

“With so many of our kids today struggling with obesity, unhealthy eating habits, I feel it is wrong to be overexposing them to bad foods," he says.

Bill supporters say decisions about student nutrition should be made at the state and local level.
