Aquatic wildlife projects in Barry and Berrien Counties are getting a boost from the state Department of Natural Resources.
The DNR has awarded $200,000 to the City of Niles to remove a dam at Pucker Street on the Dowagiac River. It will also give just under $100,000 to the Barry Conservation District for creek habitat restoration.
The DNR says it received 58 applications for a total of a million dollars for aquatic habitat projects; it’s ended up splitting the money between eight of them.
