Big Election Night for Republicans

Rick Snyder was re-elected Governor, which set the tone for the rest of the ticket throughout Michigan.

Republicans swept to victory in races for state Legislature, including the 62nd District in Battle Creek, which had been represented by Democrat Kate Segal.

Republican Representative Margaret O'Brien declared victory early Wednesday morning by a narrow margin over Democratic Representative Sean McCann. But McCann's campaign indicated it would consider "all options," that could include asking for a recount.

Republicans retain other seats in the state House and state Senate. Statewide, Republicans extended their majority in the state House, and would add another seat in the state Senate in O'Brien's victory stands.

The Democrats only bright spot statewide was Congressman Gary Peters' win in the U.S. Senate race over former Republican Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land.
