Bill Clinton Campaigns In Michigan

Cheyna Roth, Michigan Public Radio Network

(MPRN-Flint) Bill Clinton made several stops in Michigan Monday. The former president was in the state to promote Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s jobs plans and encourage people to register to vote.

With the deadline to register days away, Mr. Clinton visited a call center in Pontiac, a part of Metro Detroit. There he urged volunteers to continue their efforts saying,

“Since we’re learning every day more and more about why her opponent should not be president. I recommend you tell people why she should be.”

Mr. Clinton also stopped in Saginaw and Flint. During a speech in downtown Flint, Bill Clinton laid out Hillary Clinton’s plans for jobs and the economy. While explaining Hillary Clinton’s plans to rebuild, he made an indirect reference to Flint’s water crisis.

“Our grandchildren will never forgive us if we do not undertake a major plan to rebuild America’s roads and bridges and ports and airports and water systems,” he said.

Flint has played a big role in this year’s election. Republican nominee Donald Trump made a stop last month, and Clinton and her surrogates have made trips to the city since the primaries.

Life-long Flint resident Anthanette Taylor previously saw Chelsea Clinton and was in line to see Bill Clinton hours before he was scheduled to start. Taylor said she is ready to vote for Hillary Clinton, but wanted to hear what Bill Clinton had to say.

“The ills that are not just limited to Flint,” she said. “I mean you know there’s ills all over the nation. But I just feel that Flint just needs to know that with everything we got goin’ on. We need Hillary in the White House.”

Republican nominee Donald Trump was also in Michigan recently. He was in Grand Rapids and Metro Detroit last Friday.
