Bill Sage Says he Will Present his Values and Ideology "Politely" in State House

Tom Arthur/Wikicommons

Bill Sage says he got into politics after watching "the deterioration of America."

Sage says about five years ago, he wanted to do something about it. He served on the Allegan County Commission and has worked for limited government and conservative issues such as saying the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools. He's now running for state House in the 80th District. That seat has been vacant since Cindy Gamrat was expelled in September.

Asked if Gamrat represented her district effectively before details of a sex and cover up scandal became public, Sage says she didn't because she was kicked out of Republican caucus meetings at the state Capitol. Sage says that limited her abilities to represent the 80th state House District.

Sage says you have to work with other representatives "not work against them." Sage says he plans to present his values and ideology "politely."

Gamrat was expelled after the state House found that she and then-Representative Todd Courser used state resources to cover up their extra-marital affair. Courser, who is running for his old state House seat in Lapeer, resigned shortly before the House was to vote on his expulsion. Sage says at this point, he would not vote to seat Courser if they are both elected to the state House. But Sage says that could change based on testimony that might be heard in committee.
