Chamber Music Fest Of Saugatuck Begins This Week

Chamber Music Festival Of Saugatuck

Grand Rapids Symphony horn player Paul Austin looks forward to returning to the Chamber Music Festival ofSaugatuck this week. It's the sixteenth year he has performed at the festival of live classical performances for ensembles of one to eight players, held every July and August.

Now in its 29th season, the Chamber Music Festival of Saugatuck often features top players from Holland, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo, but also up-and-coming groups from the world competition circuit, such as the Tesla Quartet. Paul Austin says that for many of the players, the festival represents friends coming together.

Austin talks about his long-time musical partnership with bassoonist Wendy Rose. Together, they will play 12 Duets for Horn and Bassoon by Alec Wilder. The concert also features one of the best-loved horn pieces of all time: the Horn Trio, Op 40 by Johannes Brahms. The program is rounded out by works of Kreisler and Debussy.

The Chamber Music Festival of Saugatuck opens its season with concerts this Thursday and Friday at 7:30 pm in the Woman's Club of Saugatuck.
