Composer Nathan Davis talks ICE (International Contemporary Ensemble)

Adam Szczepaniak

Nathan Davis is a composer, percussionist and member of ICE, a groundbreaking ensemble at the forefront of creating and performing new music. Western Michigan University presents ICE in concert tonight in the Dalton Center Recital Hall.

He talks about his background as a musician and what drew him to composition. Cara Lieurance asks how ICE is able to present new music at such a furious rate: 500 new works in the span of only 10 years. They discuss the sound and notation of contemporary music, and Mr. Davis also explains the new ways in which computers and electronics are integrated into live performance.

Cara Lieurance is the local host of NPR's All Things Considered on 1021 WMUK and covers local arts & culture on Let's Hear It on 89.9 Classical WMUK weekday mornings at 10 - 11 am.
