A congressional panel will continue its look into the Flint water crisis with another round of hearings this week. The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee will hear Tuesday from former Flint Mayor Dayne Walling, and former Flint Emergency Manager Darnell Earley on how the city’s drinking water became contaminated with lead.
Republican Congressman Jason Chaffets chairs the oversight committee. He says the right people need to be held accountable, and there needs to be assurances Flint is getting the help it needs.
“We’ve got to solve this problem and it’s not solved yet,” he said following a visit this past weekend to Flint.
He says there’s also a lot to unravel: “There’s an intertwined relationship between the city, the county, the state, and the feds, so let’s figure that out and make sure that it never, ever, ever happens again and, for those that were responsible and they didn’t act appropriately, they should be held accountable.”
Governor Rick Snyder and EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy will testify Thursday. Michigan legislative hearings on the Flint water crisis will also begin this week in Lansing.
