Wikimedia Commons

Trumpet player KeithGeiman and keyboardist and bodhrán player Thom Britton will inaugurate a new summer series tonight, a series that focuses on local musicians. The free Thursday concerts, August 4 - September 1, begin at 8 pm in the First Baptist Church of Kalamazoo.

In a conversation with Cara Lieurance, Keith Geiman talks about his career as a musician in West Michigan, which includes private teaching, symphonic playing, and choral directing. He and his husband, pianist and organist Thom Britton, enjoy the chance to design programs for live audiences that showcase a variety of music for trumpet and keyboard and trumpet and the Irish goatskin drum called the bodhrán. They'll play medieval tunes, a Baroque suite, opera highlights and Gershwin in tonight's concert.

Cara Lieurance is the local host of NPR's All Things Considered on 1021 WMUK and covers local arts & culture on Let's Hear It on 89.9 Classical WMUK weekday mornings at 10 - 11 am.
