County Won't Build on Alcott Street Site

Kalamazoo County has decided not to build a new health department building on a City of Kalamazoo brownfield.

Commissioners had all but scrapped the plan in previous weeks. On Tuesday they made it official. The county had discovered it would cost more to build new on the Alcott Street site than it had hoped.

Kalamazoo still wants to find a new home for Health Services. It’s considering renting space in an existing building in the Edison neighborhood. The county will also look at whether health services could fit into the county’s Kalamazoo Avenue administrative building.
