Democrat Eric Anderson Warns Of "Political Dynasty" In State House Race

Courtesy of Eric Anderson

Democratic state House candidate Eric Anderson say six years of uninterrupted Republican policies have poisoned a city, and damaged the state in other ways.

Anderson lives in Hastings and works as a graphic designer. He is running for state House in the 87th district, which includes all of Barry and part of Ionia County. The current representative Republican Mike Callton cannot run again because of term limits.

Anderson says Michigan’s Emergency Manager law puts too much power in the hands of unelected officials. He says more investment is needed for cities, including infrastructure. Anderson says when cities face financial trouble, the state government should help get finances back on track.

Asked about taxation, Anderson says he favors a progressive income tax. He says the current flat tax rate means that “Dick DeVos pays exactly the same as I do” in terms of percentage of income. Anderson says he would scrap the Proposal A property tax reform of the 1990’s. He says it has cut funding to schools to give a tax cut to wealthy property owners.

Anderson says charter schools should be allowed to exist, but not get any money from taxpayers. He says it’s wrong for schools to operate with public money, but without any input from the taxpayers financing those schools.

Julie Calley, the wife of Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley, is the Republican running in the 87th district. Anderson says a political dynasty is not needed in “small town West Michigan.”
