Elections Board To Consider Six More Petitions Monday To Recall Governor Snyder

MPRN

(MPRN-Lansing) Organizers behind six more efforts to recall Gov. Rick Snyder hope to get a green light from a state elections board on Monday.

The state Board of Canvassers will also consider a petition to recall Lt. Gov. Brian Calley. The board has rejected language for more than 20 recall petitions in recent weeks – mostly due to typographical errors.

It approved one petition earlier this month that seeks to recall Snyder over an issue related to his school turnaround policies.

David Bullock, an activist from Detroit, is offering petition language related to the governor’s handling of the Flint water crisis. He says that’s the issue that will motivate voters to get behind a recall.

“A recall effort is the only logical organizing tool for folks in Flint and across the state of Michigan to lock in arms and get some tangible sense of accountability,” said Bullock. “It would send a very clear message – not just to the Snyder administration, but across the nation in a year where you have a presidential election.”

If the board OK’s their petition language, recall organizers would have to gather almost 790,000 valid signatures in 60 days to get on the ballot.
