Events Thursday in Kalamazoo area offer help with Obamacare enrollment

The Associated Press

Free professional help is being offered Thursday for people who need assistance enrolling in health care plans.

The events sponsored by Enroll Kalamazoo are being held from noon until 7:00 Thursday at Mount Zion Baptist Church, the Portage Public Library and the Comstock Community Center.

Shawn Dhanak with the Michigan chapter of Enroll America says consumers can get help in determining what is the best plan for them. Dhanak says that can include people who don't have health insurance or are looking for better coverage. He says more events are planned for early next year.

Financial assistance is available, depending on income and other factors. Dhanak says that information is available on the website. And he says professionals at Thursday's events will also be able to help with questions about eligibility.

Problems with the healthcare.gov website plagued the law as it was launched in October. Dhanak says the website has improved, and people have been finding more affordable health care coverage.

December 23rd is the deadline to enroll for health care coverage that begins on January 1st. Open enrollment will close March 31st.
