Fretwork to present Elizabethan age concert
The viol ensemble Fretwork, on a rare tour to the Midwest, is celebrating the music of John Dowland, songwriter, lutenist, and one of the the greatest composers of the Elizabethan age.
Founding member Richard Boothby tells Cara Lieurance about the composer's personality and his travels and travails across the continent in the 16th century.
He also details Dowland's masterpiece Lachrymae, or 7 Teares, a set of seven pieces based on his ubiquitous song, Flow My Tears. Fretwork performs these and other works of John Dowland on Saturday, November 9 at 8 pm, presented by Fontana Chamber Arts.
