Golosa, the Russian folk choir, will perform at sacred music fest

An interview with Anaïs Ahmed of Golosa.

The University of Chicago-based choir Golosa was founded in the 1990s to explore Russian folk repertoire, especially that of the Old Believers, an isolated community who split from the Russian Orthodox church in the 17th century.

Choir member Anaïs Ahmed tells Cara Lieurance about what drew her into the music. Ms. Ahmed describes the full-voiced sound as a hair-raising sensation. They also discuss learning Russian pronunciation and the poetry of the songs.

Golosa will perform at St. Luke's Episcopal Church for the Michigan Festival of Sacred Music on Friday, November 15 at 8 pm.
