(MPRN-Lansing) Governor Rick Snyder hopes to see movement on skilled trades legislation this year.

The governor has long put an emphasis on increasing the number of people in skilled trades in Michigan. And the House of Representatives listened. It recently passed a series of bills. They’re aimed at increasing education opportunities in skilled trades for pre-college students.

Anna Heaton is a spokesperson for the governor. She says the governor believes the economy will continue to grow if Michigan increases the number of people in skilled trades.

“One of the ways we are working to do that is to teach students earlier what jobs are out there and they’re well-paying jobs, they’re professional jobs.”

The bills are waiting for a Senate committee hearing.
