A campaign to legalize marijuana in Michigan started collecting signatures on Thursday at a rally in front of the state Capitol.
Organizers with the group MILegalize admit it will be a challenge to raise the money needed to collect enough signatures. But they’re optimistic.
“We have a good core group of supporters, people who are committed to getting thousands of signatures,”
said attorney Matthew Abel, one of the group’s lead organizers.
“We have a professional campaign manager and a good staff. And so it looks like a great start to the MILegalize campaign.”
MILegalize is one of at least three groups hoping to put marijuana legalization on the November 2016 ballot. It’s the most liberal proposal – allowing anyone 21 and over to grow up to 12 plants.
