House Committee Approves Bill to End Ban on Scalping

WMUK

(MPRN-Lansing) A state House panel has approved legislation that would end Michigan’s long-standing ban on ticket scalping. The bill would allow people to resell tickets for more than face value without the venue’s consent.

It cleared the committee on a party-line vote.

“A majority of venues already have a secondary market that you can resell and work with them to sell your ticket if you’re unable to make the event,”

said state Rep. Vanessa Guerra (D-Bridgeport), the top Democrat on the committee.

“So really I think that the bill is a solution to a problem that doesn’t quite exist.”

Supporters of the legislation say people should be free to sell tickets they’ve already purchased for any price they think is fair. The bill now goes to the full state House.
