Jason Morris says that if he's elected to the Kalamazoo Public Schools Board of Education, one of his top priorities will be the diststrict's graduation rate, "particularly for African-American males." He says he also wants to see KPS offer more vocational training.
"Through education, I want to make Kalamazoo a job-ready society," he said.
To bring up the graduation rate, Morris says the district has to focus on literacy among other things. "It's a proven fact that if you aren't reading at a third grade level by third grade, it significantly affects your ability to achieve going forward," he said.
Morris was involved in efforts to secure a $96 million bond for KPS that voters passed earlier this year, and was also involved in a special education millage in 2015.
In an interview with WMUK, Morris lays out his ideas for improving the KPS graduation rate and cultural competency at the district, and explains his take on KPS' approach to security.
