Kalamazoo announces new Public Services Director

The city of Kalamazoo says Deputy Public Services Director Sue Foune will become the Department's director in May. 

Foune will take over for Bruce Merchant, who is retiring after 34 years with the city. A press release was issued by the city of Kalamazoo on Friday:

Kalamazoo, Michigan, April 5, 2013 – Kalamazoo City Manager Kenneth P. Collard today announced his appointment of Ms. Sue Foune to the position of Public Services Director effective May 15, 2013. Ms. Foune will be transitioning from her current position as Deputy Public Services Director to the top position with the May 14 retirement of Bruce Merchant. Mr. Merchant, a 34‑year employee, is retiring under the City of Kalamazoo’s Early Retirement Incentive program. Ms. Foune is a 21-year city employee who has held various positions within the Public Services Department, including Chemist, Environmental Services Manager and Public Services Deputy Director. She has a total of 28 years of experience within several facets of Municipal Public Service Operations. “In her new position as Public Services Director, Sue brings her indomitable work ethic and technical expertise to lead this large and complex organization,” said City Manager Collard. Ms. Foune is a graduate of Western Michigan University, where she received a B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. Sue holds State of Michigan Wastewater Licenses B, C and D, and Water Licenses S-4, S-3, D-4, D-3 and D-2. Her professional affiliations include the American Water Works Association, Michigan Water Environmental Association, Kalamazoo River Watershed Council Board, Kalamazoo Environmental Council and American Backflow Prevention Association.

Gordon Evans became WMUK's Content Director in 2019 after more than 20 years as an anchor, host and reporter. A 1990 graduate of Michigan State, he began work at WMUK in 1996.
