Kalamazoo Flood Relief Fund Announced

A new fund has been created to help victims of severe flooding in the Kalamazoo area in February.

The United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region and the Kalamazoo Community Foundation have donated a total of $30,000 to launch the effort. People interested in donating can do that through the United Way, 709 South Westnedge Avenue, or calling (269) 343-2524. Checks should be made out to the "Kalamazoo Flood Relief Fund." Contributions can also be made online.

The damage caused by the flooding is expected to be more than the $11 million price tag for the flood of 2008. In late February the Kalamazoo River broke the previous high water record set in 1947. Kalamazoo City and County officials say they're still assessing the extent of the damage to homes and businesses.
