Kalamazoo Promise to Cover Some Private Colleges

Kalamazoo College

The Kalamazoo Promise has brought more than a dozen private Michigan colleges into the program that pays tuition for graduates of the Kalamazoo Public Schools. Officials of the scholarship program and a group representing private colleges announced the agreement Tuesday at Kalamazoo College.

For nearly ten years the Promise has paid some or all of graduates’ tuition and fees at any public college or university in Michigan. Starting in the fall of 2015, eligible graduates can also get a full ride at any of the schools in the Michigan Colleges Alliance.

Kalamazoo College is among the members of MCA, as is Albion, Calvin, and Hope colleges as well as Andrews University. The Promise will contribute an amount based on average costs at the University of Michigan. The MCA member schools pick up the rest of the tab.
