(MPRN-Lansing) The end of summer doesn’t end the debate over Michigan’s fireworks law.
The law allows the sale of powerful, airborne fireworks. And it says local governments have to allow fireworks on the three days surrounding national holidays.
But there have been many complaints about the explosions. State Representative Henry Yanez is a former firefighter who wants the law reversed. He says the issue is not one that separates political parties.
“Republicans and Democrats alike have contacted my office. This thing is a mess."
Yanez has also sponsored a bill to outlaw floating lanterns. He says he hopes for hearings on the bills later this year.
